Canadian investigator
Linden MacIntyre, an award-winning Canadian investigative journalist and novelist, visited campus to present his lecture, "Fiction – A High Road to Truth," as this year’s Distinguished Canadian Address.
“I'm hopeful that his talk will motivate students at BSU to want to learn more about Canada," said Dr. Andy Holman, director of Canadian Studies, in his opening remarks.

cultural exploration
Students from Brockton’s East Middle School filled the Horace Mann Auditorium, waiting with anticipation for a tour of the campus and an up-close lesson in Cape Verdean art.

Starting fresh
The annual convocation ceremony welcoming the class of 2018 was held in the Rondileau Campus Center auditorium, kicking off what promises to be an eventful academic year.
It was Dr. Mohler-Faria’s 13th and final time addressing convocation as president; he will step down at the end of this academic year. He shared his thoughts with the incoming students, as well as some advice.
“This is a beginning for each of you that will define and mark your lives in a way that will not only shape your future, but develop who you are,” he said. “There is an opportunity that exists at this university to engage yourself at every level, intellectually, morally, and even spiritually with a sense of being, a sense of learning, a sense of teaching, and a sense of engagement.”...

The right path
Damon Theodule isn’t sure what he wants to do after graduation. But the Taunton High student has a better idea now, after spending time on campus as part of the The Bridge to Employment (BTE) Program.

The skies brightened just in time for Bridgewater State University to hold its first-ever split convocation ceremony.
More than 750 undergraduates from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences were honored during the morning ceremony; the afternoon added nearly 650 graduates from the Ricciardi College of Business, the College of Education and Allied Studies, and the Bartlett College of Science & Mathematics...

The future awaits
“Strange, it doesn’t feel real,” said Jenifer Polson of Avon, as she prepared to take part in BSU’s annual Graduate Commencement Convocation. “It feels like I should be registering for classes in the fall. It hasn’t set in yet.”

The annual Metro South Legislative Luncheon brought to campus several state and regional leaders to discuss recent developments.
Bill Morse, chairman of the board opened the event by sharing a new slogan he said summed up the afternoon’s significance, and he hoped everyone would adopt, “When Metro South is home everything’s within reach.”

Middle East Awareness
The Muslim Students Association (MSA) is a small organization with big plans.
The group hopes to expand its ranks, and even non-Muslims can apply.
“Anyone can join, you don’t have to be a Muslim,” said Ghada Masri, ’16, public relations officer for the group, which was founded on the BSU campus a few years ago. Ms. Masri and Sharif Abdelal, ’15, president of MSA, renewed the group last semester...

The eighth annual Africa Awareness Week was held, once again exposing members of the BSU community to the stories, music and cultures of the continent.

Iraqi Dispatch
Ambassador Mohamed Ali Al Hakim, permanent mission of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, visited campus for an informal discussion about issues affecting his country. He focused on three subjects, the effect of sanctions on his homeland, the internal challenges of Iraq, and other regional issues.

Dr. Erin Hurley, an English professor at McGill University, visited campus to present the first lecture as part of a new partnership between her home institution and BSU.

Bridgewater State University’s staff from Student Affairs, Information Technology, University News, and the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership will host the third annual Social Media Week, which will be held March 24-27.

With spring break approaching, BSU peer educators will hold a two-day event in the ECC lobby to discuss with students how to stay safe.
